When in Iceland, be sure to take this unique opportunity to experience the calm and quiet while standing on top of a glacier. Setting out from Reykjavík airport, you will get a great view over this northernmost capital in Europe as we make our way towards Hvalfjörður (Whalefjord).
At the very bottom of Hvalfjörður, hidden in a high and narrow canyon, you will find Glymur, one of Iceland’s highest and most spectacular waterfalls. From there, we will head to Þórisjökull glacier for a stopover (subject to conditions), where you will have time to enjoy amazing mountain views in every direction.
In case a stopover at the glacier is not possible due to weather, we offer scenic alternative stopover options.
On our way back to Reykjavík, we will pass the 9000-year-old shield volcano Skjaldbreiður and follow the continental rift to Þingvellir national park. There, you can clearly see cracks and crevices in the ground that reveal how the tectonic plates are pulling this island apart.
